"My Monday nights were usually devoted to an omnibus of Coronation Street.
But now, thanks to Sky+, I can indulge in some Jewish education for the
night. The feeling that I get from CLC is a strong sense of community. It's
lovely to see so many familiar faces and to socialise during the interval.
Everyone sounds like they are thoroughly engaged with their courses. So long
as Chase Road is alive with culture and entertainment, Coronation Street can
wait!"

"Irving and I have enjoyed our Monday evenings at Hillel tremendously. We
were truly spoilt for choice and I know that I would have loved to have been
able to attend three of the courses on offer during the
second half of the evening! Asking around at the 'interval', I found that
those who attended the courses in which I was also interested, were equally
enthusiastic about the subject matter, and found the depth of discussion
fascinating, educative and inspiring. Many thanks to all who made the CLC
such a tremendous success."

"Every Monday evening, however tired I am, I look forward to going to CLC.
Last term the history lectures about False Messiahs were particularly
interesting. After the break I join the Israeli dancing group for relaxation
and exercise and come home feeling good. I am sure that the new term will be
just as stimulating."

At the last session of this term's CLC programme, David Horowitz, editor of the Jerusalem Post, spoke to us on "Life in Israel". It was a privilege to hear such an articulate, impassioned erudite young man who gave us the facts as they are. He presented us with many personal anecdotes with no left or right bias and appeared to reflect the majority Israeli position. One amusing thought was that although Ehud Olmert is on the right, his wife is a Meretz supporter and it has been noted that Ehud has moved towards her viewpoint. David also mentioned that if the Palestinians wanted us out of the 'territories' they would bomb there to make life insufferable and bring about an evacuation. This is not happening which indicates they just want us out completely.
David Horovitz was born on in London and immigrated to Israel in 1983. He is married to Lisa and they have three children. David speaks on all aspects of Israeli current affairs, Israel-Diaspora relations, Israel-U.S. relations, Israel advocacy, media attitudes to and coverage of Israel. David spoke from his heart and in his job he is at the heart of Israeli life. He interviews and is in touch with the key players as well as the man in the street. His talk did not seek to persuade, but inform us of the strains, fears, worries and difficulties faced by our family in Israel.

Following eleven months of planning there was a tremendous sense of excitement as the CLC programme got off to a great start with over 175 participants on Monday the 18th October. There were remarkably few teething troubles and the comments and feedback from everyone has been extremely positive.
The quality of the lectures and presentations was of the highest standard and the atmosphere at the refreshments break was most exciting with a real buzz of conversation as people swapped notes from their sessions.
Those who want to join either for the rest of the term or even on a night by night basis are more than welcome and can be registered on the evening. We are already planning our second term which is due to start on the 31st January and will continue for six Monday evenings until the 14th March (omitting Monday the 14th February).
Please do send us in your suggestions for our future programme which we will be delighted to take on board. We are also delighted to announce that the Chief Rabbi, Dr. Jonathan Sacks, will be our keynote speaker on our last evening of term on the 14th March.
